Abstract

From the late 1990s to the mid-2010s, Dr. Larry Nassar sexually assaulted upwards of 300 athletes with the majority of them being gymnasts. Nassar worked as the athletic physician for the U.S. National Gymnastics Team and Michigan State University. He had a kind, clumsy, and caring personality which allowed him to earn the trust of the athletes and employers. Nassar used a medical disguise called “internal therapy” to assault these athletes. It would be easy to state that Nassar was the singular fault for his crimes, however, figures and concepts allowed him to continue. This includes USA Gymnastics, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, John Geddert, gymnastics culture, and the Default to Truth theory.
